My Support Team

I am absolutely honored that so many people across the world have supported this project. It’s been over a year in planning and preparing and it is hard for me to believe it is now coming to a close.

First, we could never have gotten here with all our needed supplies without the financial support and prayers of our friends and family back home.

Second, this project would not have been successful if it were not for the PhotoVoice resources from Rutgers. They graciously gave us permission to use their PhotoVoice manual. I used this as a basis for the training and discussions. While I made adaptions, the knowledge presented in their materials was a vital foundation. (Check it out at: www.rutgers.international/photovoice).

Third, the willingness of AFnet to sponsor this project, as well as the support of Bishop Henry Mumba has been invaluable. I am also very grateful for the knowledge of Mrs. Esther Mumba, Chief of Nursing at Mansa General Hospital, and her willingness to show us local health facilities.

Lastly, the “on the ground” team here in Mansa has kept the project moving forward through technical and practical obstacles. Christo and Rentia have cooked for us, driven us all over Mansa, jumped in to help and most of all, they will have driven almost 3,000 miles and taken weeks out of their lives to be here.

John has provided rockstar technical support. Not only did he provide 2 days of photography training to 10 women that have never held a camera before, he has connected and reconnected computers, projectors and cameras. He has charged cameras, provided troubleshooting help on a daily basis and lugged 20 pounds of tech support equipment with him where ever we go. He and Christo entirely took apart one of the cameras and reassembled it (although sad to say despite all of the efforts the patient passed away).

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for believing in me!
"I am the camera man"

Don't Christo and Rentia look thrilled to have their photo taken?
