John and I are returning to Zambia to conduct an assessment of health care gaps among women.

PhotoVoice: a picture is worth a thousand words

The assessment will use PhotoVoice, a participatory action research model.

What is the Photo Voice Process?

Women will take pictures, participate in group discussions and write brief descriptions of their photos to document their reality. Photographs will be displayed at an exhibit attended by community and health care leaders.

PhotoVoice recognizes that people are experts in their own lives, spurs action and acts as a catalyst for change

3 Project Goals

1. Enable women to tell their story.

2. Promote discussion to empower solutions.

3. Create a platform where community leadership can hear what the women have to say.

How does she access health care services for herself and her children? Can she see a clinician when she needs to? Where are the gaps in care? What prevents her from getting the care she needs?
